I love the color purple! For me, it connotes femininity, elegance and somehow it symbolizes something mystical. I was even beyond ecstatic last year when Radiant Orchid was the Pantone color of 2014.
I was even thinking of incorporating the color purple on my church wedding next year…
But I never imagined putting purple on my lips. I am not that risky and adventurous. So there was a bit hesitation, no matter how I love the color purple, when a purple lipstick from The Lip Bar was included on my first Boxycharm.
But I admit, I instantly fell in love with the packaging!
It took me almost 3 weeks to finally try it. I only did it today because I am feeling blue (pun intended) so I decided to wear a lipstick at home. Everyone feels better with lipstick! 💄
It retails for $20 which is a price that is a bit on the high-end. However, The Lip Bar proudly says that their products are cruelty-free, natural and vegan so it’s worth it. You can check their website at http://www.thelipbar.com.
The first product that I always buy from a make-up company that I haven’t tried before is a lipstick. I always have this specific product to try first to gauge how good a company is. For instance, for a restaurant, I will order lasagna if they have any. I am THAT weird I guess 😂 or I just absolutely love lipsticks and lasagna.💄🍴
So I, of course, had to buy NYX lipsticks first when I heard about them from a friend who told me how affordable and good they are. The fact that they are cruelty-free is a major plus too.
I initially tried their Soft Matte Lip Creams, but for this post, I will review three of their Matte Lipsticks and the new lipstick that I bought yesterday at Target, a NYX Butter Lipstick. I bought them at $5.99 each.
Aren’t they all the perfect colors for Spring!
All of the NYX Matte Lipsticks that I have glide on to the lips smoothly and easily, without tugging the lips as some matte lipsticks do. They are also surprisingly hydrating for matte lipsticks.
Butter Lipstick, as expected, did feel “buttery” when applied making my lips hydrated without the feeling of stickiness.
I have a dark pigmentation around my lips and Tea Rose conceals it thoroughly at one application even without a lip liner. I feel that it even makes my lips look more plump ala Kylie Jenner. Well, I have been using this way before the swollen lips challenge! 💋
Tea Rose is obviously my favorite NYX Matte Lipstick. Do you see how small and almost empty it is? This is actually my second NYX Tea Rose lipstick and I will definitely buy my third once I ran out of this one.
These lipsticks don’t leave much stain on the lips after eating and can last for around 4 to 6 hours when left untouched. But when you do, say goodbye to lipstick and just reapply. Since it doesn’t make my lips chappy, reapplying is easy peasy.
It doesn’t have any distinct smell at all. I promise, I sniffed like crazy and there’s nothing. 👃🏼
If you want to check their website, please click here. But basically, you can buy them at almost all the drugstores and supermarkets near you.
I have always been a fan of Revlon. There was a time that almost all of the make-up and beauty tools that I was using were from Revlon.
So I was excited to know that they have this new lipstick that a lot of people are liking very much.
The REVLON ULTRA HD lipstick is described on their website as,
“Revolutionary wax-free gel technology for true color clarity in one smooth swipe. Available in 20 high-definition shades.”
They got me with the “Revolutionary”! Revolutionary Revlon, why not!
I bought my first Revlon Ultra HD lipstick at Walmart for $7.97 while the other 2 are from Target for $7.99 each.
I love the transparent cap for it makes it easier for me to see the shade of the lipstick. But personally, I don’t like square lipstick caps because I tend to hit the lipstick bullet trying to figure out how to close or open it. It messes up the cap and the holder of the lipstick bullet. But then again, I’m also a bit of a klutz and probably didn’t do well with the shape sorter toys when I was a kid, lol.
I find that all of them are very hydrating to my lips. Orchid is the most sheer among the three of them while Petunia is the most pigmented.
They wear off easily like a normal lipstick when you eat or drink but Petunia leaves a good faded color on the lips.
The consistency when it comes to re-application after it has faded is not the same. I find that the Petunia is the best among the three.
I obviously have all the praises for Petunia, my first lipstick from the collection, that’s why I opted to buy the other shades.
I’m thinking of buying two more of these lipsticks, Dahlia and Iris, based from what I saw from their website.
What do you think? Have you ever tried Revlon Ultra HD Lipsticks before?
I have a sensitive skin and it has gotten more sensitive when I arrived here in the US, most probably because my skin is adjusting to the weather, food and everything else in between.
Last Sunday, I woke up looking up like this.
This is not the face you put on instagram and hashtag #IWokeUpLikeThis.
This is the face you don’t want to see in the mirror first thing in the morning.
This is NOT what you want to look like two days before your state ID picture-taking.
So I sent this photo to my husband and this was his reaction and my reply to his reaction.
But thanks to a combination of every beauty products that work for me, I was back to normal within 24 hours.
So what’s my secret? An equal dollop of all of the products below.
As you may noticed, the Aquaphor and the Aveeno Hydrocortisone are almost empty (while writing this post, I am texting my husband to pass by Walmart or Target) because unfortunately, last Sunday was not the only worstface day for me lately. On the other hand, I only use the Aveeno sunscreen when I go out of the house.
I only use the Aveeno hydrocortisone if my face is red and itchy. I also add another step if I will go out of the house. I blot my face first with a single ply of a facial tissue (as what I’ve learned from Wayne Goss, the famous YouTuber), before I put on my foundation. I usually do this right after I blow dry my hair so my “concoction” will be absorbed by my skin thoroughly and the excess will simply be removed by the tissue. Remember, just pat your face with the tissue ever so gently and don’t rub it.
So far, this works for me.
I hope to read some of your original beauty concoction too.
Yes, you read the word F-R-E-E correctly. No shipping fee. No. Nada.
All you need to do is answer a simple questionnaire on Mario Badescu‘s website so they can customize the samples that they will give to you openheartedlyfor freeeeee (I do elongate my E’s on the word FREE 😂).
Several hours after I answered the questions, I received an email like this…
Almost a week has passed when I finally got my Mario Badescu samples…
It’s great that they also included a guide on how and when to apply their products.
There was also a Product Guide that gives us a brief description of their products and their prices.
Here are the samples:
Hyaluronic Moisturizer SPF 15
I love everything that has SPF. This one has a faint sweet smell and can be used as a daily moisturizer. I tried it and it’s good for springtime but probably not enough for my face during winter.
Regular price is $24 for 2 oz.
It smells a bit like vanilla and looks like a mocha ice cream, yum! I swear by it. It effectively dried up the pesky little pimple that has been overstaying for a week on the corner of my mouth. (Side note: I read that pimple on the mouth means I need to eat more veggies and fruits, argh!)
With one dab of this product on my pimple, it dried up overnight! I will surely buy this one.
Regular price for 1/2 oz is $17.
Strawberry Face Scrub
It smells like, um, strawberries! You can find this under the “exfoliants” page of the Product Guide. I haven’t used this one yet because I think my face is still too sensitive for any exfoliation.
Regular price for 4 oz is $15.
At first, I got confused with this one. It sure doesn’t look like a body lotion because it’s too watery. So I checked the Product Guide and it’s under “toners/astringents”. It doesn’t have a distinct smell but it definitely smells nice. I try not to use any astringents or toner yet, especially with alcohol, so I haven’t tried this one. This one has 2% alcohol plus the aloe so it might be tolerable to most people. It comes with 3 sizes: 8 oz ($15), 16 oz ($26) and 32 oz ($45).
Flower and Tonic Mask
This one is very interesting. It says on the guide that it’s a purifying and calming mask that absorbs dirt and oil and calms minor redness and irritation. Redness and irritation are the best two words to describe my face most of the time recently so I’m looking forward in using this mask.
Regular price for 2 oz. is $18
Orange Cleansing Soap
I haven’t opened this one yet and it’s under “cleansers” on the Product Guide. It says that it’s non-oily and non-detergent so I guess it won’t be too sudsy, not so sure about that though. I should better try it first. It comes into 2 sizes: 8 oz for $12 and 16 oz for $20.
Glycolic Eye Cream
I would have loved this sample if it’s on a bottle too. I absolutely in need of an eye cream because wrinkles have been showing under my eyes lately that were never been there 3 months ago and I didn’t even have my birthday yet! Cold and dry weather, curse you!
Regular price for 1/2 oz is $20.
Bee Pollen Night Cream
I love night creams! I’m appreciating them now that I’m “normal” because I used to work on a graveyard shift so that messed up the purpose of a having a night cream. My dilemma was, “should I put my day cream at night because I’m awake and put night cream during the day when I’m about to sleep?” My circadian rhythm was already so whacked to be even bothered with day and night creams. Oh before I forget (too much side note eh), regular price for 1 oz. of this cream is for $20.
I have to thank a piece of heaven called blogosphere for talking about how to score these free samples.
I may not become a supermodel like Naomi Campbell, but at least our face is being made by the same company.
A few days before my wedding, I was crying because my skin was horrible. It was dry, flaky, red, wrinkly and my makeup looks chalky when applied.
I told my fiancé (then) to move the wedding date for another month so that my skin can finally adjust to the cold weather.
But he had a better solution. He said he’ll buy me new makeup.
So a day before the wedding, we went to Macy’s and went straight ahead to the Mac counter.
Prior to that day, I have always loved Mac. I tried their lipsticks, eyeshadows and mascara before. But I always want to know my foundation shade. The Mac consultant said I’m NC30 for my foundation and Medium Plus for my powder. She used a Moisture Infusion Serum Primer together with the Mineralize Moisture SPF15 Foundation. She tapped a bit of Mineralize Skinfinish Powder on my t-zone then spritzed Charged Water all over my face.
Magic! No redness. No chalkiness. I was ready to get married!
My husband said that I could buy everything that was used on me. (🎶Angels we have heard on high🎶)
The consultant said that I should also try their brush cleaner.
A month after the purchase, I returned the brush cleaner because it didn’t seem to work when I used it for the first time. Lesson: always keep your receipts.
Here what’s left from my Mac haul, approximately 2 months after the purchase with a bit of my two cents.
I was beyond excited when I finally got my Tarte blushes! I bought it thru my trusted online seller mycalishopper (instagram) by simply giving the url to her.
I had always wanted to try Tarte blushes because they are always part of “The Best” or “The Must-Haves” on most of the beauty checklists that I have read online. So the only way to satisfy my curiosity is to buy an Amazonian clay blush. Not just one, but a set of 3 holiday exclusive blushes.
This set of blushes are smaller than the regular-sized Amazonian Clay blushes. But I like the colors and they are really pigmented! I also love the fact that they included a brush! Love love love ❤️
I totally got my money’s worth!
I use honored for contouring, treasured if I’m wearing a bright or dark lipstick but if I’m wearing something coral or nude on my lips, I prefer using the imagined blush.
I just received my first Glamourbox 5 days ago and I have mixed emotions on this. First, it’s a bit more expensive than the BDJ box; Glamourbox is Php595 while BDJ box is Php580. I know that it’s a mere Php15 difference but I was perplexed when I was charged an additional 10-15 pesos on my debit card like I just made an international charge. Well, I didn’t dispute it and just moved on.
So let’s cut the intro and see for yourself if it’s worth Php595 (600-ish for me).
The box of Glamourbox is a bit bigger than the BDJ box (must be the Php15 difference, lol)
For December, Glamourbox’s theme is “Secret Santa”… I think I was nice the entire year… Really, I am.
On the other side of the card is the list of box’s contents
Do not be deceived though; read it carefully. The prices are for the full-sized version of the products included on the box. The only full-sized product on the box is the Avon perfume and honestly, I’m quite surprised of its price… a whopping Php1500. Really???
I’m not a fan of Avon perfumes but the Only Imagine smells really nice that I might even try using it. I also like the pink and purple packaging and the fluffy purple tutu that I thought was a scoungie.
I also find the necklace from Fabulosa very cute and I think it will look nice to wear on a Christmas party/dinner. It’s a good conversation starter due to its gift-shaped pendant. This is a plus on Glamourbox because I haven’t gotten any kind of jewelry yet from my BDJ box.
I’m a fan of liquid bath soaps so I’m happy to get The Cream Factory’s Bath Cream (221ml). But I almost gagged when I first used it due to its overwhelming scent.
I’m quite satisfied too with the Holika Holika Pure Mellow Multi Puff; a cute purple dupe of the Beauty Blender’s famous sponge:
I also can’t wait to try these 2 samples from Paula’s Choice:
I have been using BB cream for a year now instead of the usual L’oreal True Match Foundation that I used before. I would love to try this Holika Holika’s CC cream (I-dont-understand-Korean ml) for a change:
And lastly, the only product that I will definitely not use (and that’s because I don’t cook, lol)… Giving it to my mom at this very moment… Zen Zest Kitchen Fragrance in Choco Cappucino (50ml)
I would have loved love it if there is a make-up included on the box. Fine, it has the make-up sponge but a lippie inside the box won’t hurt, right?
This blog has been in semi-hiatus for the month of November because I’ve been busy at work; “overtime” seemed like a “regular time” for me. Whew! But that didn’t stop me from buying beauty products! No, no, no! It may not be as many as I wanted to but I’m still happy with my purchases. Thank God for a trusted online seller (…and going to the mall when almost everyone was out of town during the All Souls Day, woohoo), shopping had been easy breezy.
So here was my beauty haul for last month:
❤️ Eye Need A Miracle Concealer (Happy Skin)
Happy Skin is a local brand that has just been recently launched in the market but is already making waves due to their über cute packaging, their products’ catchy names and their celebrity owners and endorsers. So when I saw this in instagram, it has piqued my kikay curiousity and decided to buy myself an undereye concealer (mine has been running out anyway… There’s the excuse!😛).
Bought this inside Plains And Prints at Megamall at around 600 pesos. Not bad.
I know I need a miracle for my panda-bear-undereye situation so I was so excited to finally buy this concealer. They only have 1 shade available because…
It doesn’t have a scent, it blends well and a little dollop can go a long way.
❤️ Elf Contouring Blush & Bronzing Cream
Very affordable! I bought this at Watson’s Megamall as I practice the art of highlighting and contouring.
❤️ Nyx Stick Blush in Tea Rose for Php300
I love this blush! It’s pigmented and lasts for hours!
❤️ Nyx Round Lipstick in Blush for Php280
It’s a “barbie pink” kind of lipstick
I just took this picture today so let me showoff my Christmas mani too, lol
